Understanding Civil Registry Certificates and the Generator Algorithm
What are Civil Registry Certificates?
Civil registry certificates are documents issued by Brazilian Civil Registry Offices that attest to life events: birth, marriage, death, among others. The numbering follows the CNJ (National Council of Justice) standard with 32 digits in the format XXXXXXXX XX XX XXXX X XXXXX XXX XXXXXXX XX. This unique standard identifies the type of certificate, state, municipality, registry office, and sequence number of the record.
How does the generation algorithm work?
The certificate number is composed of fields that identify: the act number (8 digits), year of registration (2 digits), book letter, type of registration (01 for birth, 02 for marriage, etc.), state code, municipality code, registry office code, and check digit.
