PIS (Programa de Integração Social) and PASEP (Programa de Formação do Patrimônio do Servidor Público) are registrations that identify Brazilian workers before the government. PIS is for private sector employees, while PASEP identifies public servants. Both have 11 digits and are used to access benefits like unemployment insurance, FGTS, and salary bonus.
PIS/PASEP uses 10 base digits followed by 1 check digit. The verifier is calculated by multiplying each of the 10 digits by weights 3, 2, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, and 2, summing the products, and calculating the remainder of division by 11. If the remainder is 0 or 1, the check digit is 0; otherwise, it is 11 minus the remainder.
HR systems, payroll, eSocial, and labor benefits portals require PIS/PASEP as mandatory data. In developing and testing these applications, having valid numbers that pass algorithmic checks without exposing real employee data is essential. Numbers generated by Help4Dev are safe, random, and mathematically correct for use in development environments.
