About RFC (Mexico)

What is RFC?

RFC (Registro Federal de Contribuyentes) is Mexico's tax identifier, issued by SAT. It has 13 characters for individuals and 12 for companies, encoding name and date of constitution/birth.

Code structure

For individuals: 4 name letters + 6 birth date digits + 3 homoclave characters. For companies: 3 name letters + 6 constitution date digits + 3 homoclave. The homoclave is assigned by SAT to avoid duplicates.

Use in development

Electronic invoicing systems (CFDI), e-commerce platforms, and fiscal applications in Mexico require RFC as a mandatory field. Use fictitious RFCs to test SAT integrations.
