About CURP (Mexico)

What is CURP?

CURP (Clave Única de Registro de Población) is Mexico's unique personal identifier, composed of 18 alphanumeric characters encoding name, date of birth, gender, and state of birth. Issued by RENAPO and mandatory for government procedures.

Code structure

The first 4 characters come from the name, followed by 6 digits for date of birth, 1 letter for gender, 2 for state, 3 internal consonants from names, 1 differentiator digit, and 1 check digit.

Use in development

Systems targeting the Mexican market need CURP for government, banking, and educational registrations. The generator creates fictitious CURPs following all RENAPO formation rules.
