About NI Number (United Kingdom)

What is the NI Number?

The National Insurance Number is the UK's tax and social security identifier, issued by HMRC. Format: AA-XX-XX-XX-C (2 letters, 6 digits, 1 letter), used for social security contributions and taxes.

Formation rules

The first two letters cannot be BG, GB, NK, KN, TN, NT, ZZ and cannot start with D, F, I, Q, U, V. The suffix (last letter) is A, B, C, or D. The generator respects all these restrictions.

Use in development

International HR systems, British payroll platforms, and fiscal compliance applications in the UK require the NI Number. Use fictitious numbers to test forms and integrations.
